Huawei P30 to go all-in on OLED, P30 Pro will feature periscope optical zoom camera

    0

Reports from people using engineering samples suggest that the Huawei P30 will feature a redesigned front. For starters, both phones will use OLED displays now, instead of keeping the non-Pro on LCD.

This is made necessary by the move to optical in-display fingerprint readers, which also means that the wide notch for the 3D face scanner is going away. Instead, a small teardrop notch (like on the Mate 20) will be used.

The P30 is said to have a 6.1” screen (and be similar in size to the P20) while the P30 Pro will go up to 6.5”.

As for the all-important camera, the Huawei P30 is said to keep the same triple camera setup of the Mate 20 Pro (centered on a Sony IMX600 module).

The Huawei P30 Pro will have a new camera, which will “likely” include a periscope module for a high optical zoom (similar to Oppo’s design). The camera will use a new 6-series Sony sensor (perhaps the 1/1.8″ 38MP IMX607).

Moving on, both phones will be powered by a Kirin 980 chipset with 8GB of RAM on the base model and 12GB on the Pro.

Charging is reportedly kept at 22.5W instead of adopting the 40W charging of the Mate 20 Pro. The non-Pro model will have a 3.5mm headphone jack too.

The Samsung Galaxy M20 will reportedly have the new One UI, even though it will run Android 8.1 Oreo at launch. In fact, the Pie update is months away – it will be released in August.

Samsung published a notice with the Pie update schedule and it included the still-unofficial Galaxy M10 and M20.

Unofficially, the M10 specs leaked through a manual. It will be powered by an Exynos 7872 chipset with 2/3GB of RAM. The M20 comes with an Exynos 7885 with 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB storage.

These two (and perhaps a few others) will be unveiled at the end of the month. In India, they will be available exclusively online through Amazon and Samsung at prices of INR 10,000 and INR 15,000, respectively.

As for other Samsungs hoping to get Pie, the queue starts with the Galaxy Note8 and S8 flagships, which will get it in February, then the Galaxy A-series in March and J-series in April.

    Huawei’s 5G

company wants to talk about what it has been working on with a “pre-MWC” briefing to be held on January 24 in Beijing (that’s tomorrow).

The event will be livestreamed and it will kick off Huawei’s 5G efforts. The company wants to deliver a double-hitter by unveiling a foldable 5G phone – either at the MWC or in the second half of 2019. Sub-brand Honor will release a 5G phone too.

We don’t actually expect to see a phone tomorrow, certainly not a full reveal. However, Huawei recently teased a 5G router with Wi-Fi 6, which was promised specifically for January 24. Expect to hear about 5G networking equipment too.

Huawei P10 and Honor 9 receive EMUI 9.0.1 update with January security patches

    EMUI 9.0.1

Today Huawei has started sending out a new software update to the P10, its flagship smartphone from the first half of 2017. Additionally, the Honor 9 is getting the same software, namely EMUI 9.0.1.

    EMUI 9.0.1

Currently the rollout is happening only in China, but it’s clearly only a matter of time before the new release hits other markets. EMUI 9.0.1 comes with the January 2019 security patches, and it’s based on Android 9 Pie like EMUI 9 was before it. EMUI 9 with Android Pie was released in Asia for the P10 and Honor 9 back in December of last year, and it’s nice to see Huawei and its sub-brand still keeping the new software builds rolling out for these phones that are getting pretty old by mobile world standards.

Aside from the new security update, EMUI 9.0.1 also brings support for VoLTE on China Telecom, an improved system of full-screen navigation gestures, along with other unnamed fixes and enhancements.

Meizu M9 Note lands in mid-February with 48 MP main camera, 4,000 mAh battery

    0
    Meizu M9 Note

Meizu has just announced the Zero, a phone with no buttons or ports, but the Chinese company is also working on less revolutionary devices. A handset that is expected to become official in mid-February is the Meizu M9 Note.

It will come with a dual rear camera system, with the main sensor being the 48 MP Samsung GM1. It’s a big 1/2″ sensor, with 0.8µm pixels (but you can count that as being 1.6µm because 4-in-1 pixel binning will be present, resulting in 12 MP default images).

Meizu founder Huang Zhang has confirmed this info, also adding that the M9 Note will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. This is built on an 11nm process and uses Kryo 460 CPU cores, and the Adreno 612 GPU. The SD675 scores around 170,000 in the AnTuTu benchmark, so it’s definitely part of the upper-midrange space.

The Meizu M9 Note will also have a 4,000 mAh battery, and apparently will start at just about CNY 1,000, which at today’s currency exchange rates translates into $147 or €129. Clearly it’s intended to compete head-on with the recently announced Redmi Note 7.

YouTube TV is now available nationwide in the US

    0

YouTube TV launched almost two years ago but was only available in select markets. As the months passed by, YouTube TV supported more markets around the United States including the four largest local TV broadcasters in 90% of all markets where YouTube TV is available.

Today, YouTube TV has added 95 new markets which covers over 98% of all American households while “the remainder will follow shortly thereafter.”

YouTube TV offers over 60 network channels and even local channels depending on your market. Each $40 per month subscription includes six streaming accounts with individualized recommendations and personal DVR. Cloud DVR storage is unlimited and you can stream your shows from anywhere.

YouTube made the right move by pushing expansion just before one of the United States’ biggest sporting events of the year. The Super Bowl 53 (LIII) kicks off on February 3 at 6:30PM EST. The Super Bowl is also infamously known for featuring the most outlandish commercials that American companies have to offer.

As YouTube TV covers all of the United States, we begin to wonder if and when Google might expand the service to other countries outside of North America – just something to keep in mind.

More photos of the Samsung Galaxy S10 leak revealing a cryptocurrency wallet

    Samsung Galaxy S10

More photos of the Samsung Galaxy S10 have surfaced, this time showing off a new feature. The Galaxy S10 in these images shows a Samsung Blockchain KeyStore where you can presumably store supported cryptocurrencies.

The Galaxy S10 in these images have a single camera in the display cutout, so we’re likely seeing the regular Galaxy S10 variant in the pictures below.

Realme teases new smartphone that’s all about entertainment

    Realme new smartphone

Realme is announcing a new phone in India and it will be “all about entertainment”. The company teased it on Flipkart as the device to have if you are into movies or photos but did not announce what the name will be.

Chances are it is either the Realme 3 or the Realme A1 since both are expected to arrive soon. The most intriguing feature, however, is the pictured wide notch, meaning the company is stepping back from the waterdrop cutout for some reason.

Although the assumption the new Realme could have a notch is pretty clear, we see the volume buttons appear both on the left and right side, so the outline is more of a placeholder than aligning with the final design.

If this is indeed the Realme A1, we expect a 6.3” screen, 13 MP camera, Black and Yellow colors, and a price tag no more than €200. There were also rumors about a Realme 3 and a 48 MP snapper.

Redmi Note 7 will come in India to turn your head around

    Redmi Note 7 launch india

Yes, your eyes are alright, Xiaomi really posted an upside-down photo of Lei Jun and Manu Kumar Jain posing with the Redmi Note 7. That is the announcement of the phone arrival in India without actually revealing any dates or pricing. What the tweet said was only the “head-turner” is coming and “disruption is guaranteed.”

The Redmi Note 7 is a follow-up of the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the first Redmi phone after the sub-brand separated from Xiaomi. It has a 48 MP camera with a Samsung sensor and a tall notched 6.3” display. The device is powered by Snapdragon 660 and has a 4,000 mAh battery that has Quick Charge 4. Currently, it is available only in China and is shipped with a 10W charger, but if you want the 18W block, you have to pay just CNY10 (no more than $1.50) more.

The price of the phone starts at CNY999 and goes up to CNY1,399 (between $150 and $210). If Xiaomi keeps the cost of the Redmi Note 7, we expect to see the 3/32 GB version for no more than INR9,999, while the 6/64 GB variant will cost around INR13,999. We also have to wait and see if all three colors – Blue, Twilight Gold, and Black, will be available in India.

Sexy Vivo Apex 2019 unveiled with no buttons, all screen fingerprint sensor

    0
    Vivo apex 2019

The New Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone is here and it packs some serious 2019 tech. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 855, with 256GB or 512GB of storage obtain, 12GB of RAM and it is 5G Ready – the last two are firsts for vivo. Arriving just a day after , Vivo’s Apex 2019 is a rather different beast despite similar looks. For starters the Apex 2019 has a port, of sorts. Whereas the Meizu Zero relies entirely on wireless charging, the Apex 2019 uses what vivo calls MagPort – a magnetic connector on the rear that’s used for charging and data transfer.

The 6.39-inch AMOLED display of the vivo Apex 2019 doubles as the speaker by using a piezoelectric transducer to emit sound. It’s surrounded by very thin bezels with no sight of a selfie camera. What’s more interesting is the Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning – you can touch almost anywhere on the screen to unlock via the in-display fingerprint scanner – this would make it the most-advanced in-display fingerprint scanner out there.

    vivo Apex 2019
    vivo Apex 2019

The vivo Apex 2019, like Meizu’s phone, uses a combination of capacitive touch and pressure-sensing to replace the standard power and volume buttons on the sides. This way you get the functionality of the buttons while retaining a seamless, button-less design.

    vivo Apex 2019
    vivo Apex 2019

    vivo Apex 2019

The dual camera on the rear is a 12MP + 13MP with an LED flash. vivo hasn’t said a word about the selfie camera – is it a pop-up slider or does the concept come without one. We also don’t know if the vivo Apex 2019 has wireless charging and if it’s waterproof like the Meizu Zero. Since this is a concept phone, don’t expect vivo to release it to the market in this exact configuration. Still, last year vivo showed off the impressive Apex concept and later on released the NEX that used a bunch of its technologies.

vivo will show off the Apex 2019 concept phone at the Mobile World Congress in February – we’ll be there to bring you a real hands-on then.
