A report from internal sources has been released stating that TSMC will remain Apple’s only chip provider for this year’s iPhones. Last year, TSMC produced all A12 Bionic chips from Apple and we expect the same for the iPhone in 2019.
The new A13 chip will remain on the 7 nm node, but with improved EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography). Production is expected to start in the second quarter of 2019, if everything goes according to plan.
The CEO of TSMC said that 25% of the company’s revenue came from 7nm smelters and was likely to continue to grow due to increased HPC and automotive demand. Nevertheless, the CEO expects moderate growth in 2019 due to the general decline in demand for smartphones.
